I’m happy to announce the publication of my new book – or, rather, my new ‘philosophical play’ in six acts – called Deface the Currency: The Lost Dialogues of Diogenes.
Here is the advance praise the book received from Dr William Desmond, author of The Greek Praise of Poverty.
“This is a creative re-enactment of the life, death and ideas of the most influential Cynic of...

I intended to post this a while back but got waylaid.
Here is beautiful short film made by Jordan Osmond of Happen Films (with whom I co-produced ‘A Simpler Way: Crisis as Opportunity‘) telling the story of one financier who turned farmer.

Last night 300 people attended the sold-out premiere screening of the new documentary, A Simpler Way: Crisis as Opportunity, which I co-produced with Jordan Osmond. After the film, David Holmgren and Helena Norberg-Hodge joined us on stage for a panel discussion which stimulated a great discussion.

Commonwealth Bank...

In the last post I outlined the ecovillage permaculture farm that the Simplicity Institute has been developing as a ‘simpler way’ demonstration project.
This project is currently seeking applicants [now closed] for a year long ‘residency’ at the ecovillage. I also mentioned the documentary that we’re hoping to make based on the evolution of this demonstration project.
This documentary will...

Below I’ve posted the introduction to a new MSSI Issues paper, “Fossil Free: The Development and Significance of the Fossil Fuel Divestment Movement“, which I co-authored with Kara Nicholson and John Wiseman.
As the probability and risks of catastrophic climate change continue to increase (Potsdam, 2012; Christoff, 2013), fossil fuel divestment has become an increasingly important...
